We love Spaghetti around here and it is one of Harper’s favorite meals for sure. Plus we can get a lot of leftovers when we make spaghetti. Sometimes I even double my recipe and freeze half for a back up meal when we don’t feel like cooking.
When Eric and I first started living together I made spaghetti for him ALL THE TIME. It is all I really knew how to make back then.

I didn’t even put meat in it y’all! I swear he even asked one time if I could make something other than spaghetti. Fast forward to 15 years later and I cook ALL THE TIME now and I make Spaghetti and Meatballs EVERY Christmas Eve with his family’s recipe.
We make so much pasta at Christmas time now, our house smells of garlic for a week after, just kidding. Our Meatball recipe another time though, today I am sharing my Spaghetti recipe, the one that I have made for the past 10 years give or take.
This is a super easy and quick recipe plus you can tailor it to your own taste as well by using your favorite Italian seasoning (my favorite Italian Seasoning is the McCormick Italian Seasoning Grinder). I also love using the fresh basil from our little garden. We will go out and clip a few leaves for the sauce then chop some up for garnish to give it that fresh sweet zing basil packs.
Remember also, you can thin it out with reserved pasta water so remember to save some when making your pasta. This is my absolute favorite pot to cook our pasta in and I love some color in my kitchen. You can click on the image below or right here to get yours!
The below recipe feeds my family of 4 ( including my 1 year old son). We could easily need 2 packages of pasta for the amount of sauce this recipe makes. I can feed my family of four at least two nights off this recipe. If your kids are older I would suggest doubling.
*Side note – If I was making this recipe for just me or if you have non picky eaters I would throw in sauteed green peppers, mushrooms, and onion while the sauce simmers. I have even set aside for myself before and added the veggies and simmered in a separate pot*
Spaghetti with Meatsauce Recipe
Easy Spaghetti sauce recipe you can make on a weeknight.
- 1 lb lean ground beef
- 1 28 oz can tomato sauce
- 1 6 oz can tomato paste we like the one with basil garlic flavoring
- 2 1/2 tbsp Italian Seasoning plus more to your taste we like our pasta Herb-y so we I add until it is to our taste
- 2 cloves freshly diced garlic
- 6 fresh basil leaves reserve a little to chop for garnish of desired
- 1 tsp Salt & Pepper or to taste
- 1/2 tsp Sugar
- 1 tbsp grated Parmesan cheese plus more for garnishing
- 1 package spaghetti noodles
- 1/4 cup reserved pasta water for tomato sauce
Heat a large skillet that has a lid to medium high heat and a large pot for pasta. Once hot add ground beef, garlic, 1 tbsp of the Italian seasoning and cook for about 8-10 minutes or until done. While beef cooks, cook spaghetti according to package directions. Once pasta is cooked set aside 1/4 cup pasta water to add to tomato sauce.
When you drain pasta drizzle with olive oil so it does not stick. Drain any liquid from beef once cooked. Add tomato sauce and paste to cooked beef and all other spices and basil leaves plus the sugar, Parmesan and reserved pasta water.
Sometimes if I am having a glass of red wine while cooking I will throw in a quick splash, a good Cab makes a yummy sauce. Cover and simmer on low for about 15-20 minutes. Stir sauce frequently so it does not stick to bottom of pan. If you have the extra time let it simmer for longer.
Enjoy pasta smothered in sauce and Parmesan cheese along with side salad or Broccoli like we did in the picture here. I always make a side of garlic bread too because the hubs loves to dip the bread in the sauce.
