This sauce is loaded with Italian seasonings, garlic and seasoned ground beef and is perfect for that pile of spaghetti. Make this easy spaghetti with meatsauce recipe and have dinner on your table in no time.
We love Spaghetti around here and it is one of Harper’s favorite meals, for sure. Plus we can get a lot of leftovers when we make spaghetti. Sometimes I even double my recipe and freeze half of the sauce for a back up meal when I don’t feel like cooking.
This recipe cracks me up because it reminds me of when Eric and I started living together 16 years ago. I made spaghetti for him ALL THE TIME. It is all I really knew how to make back then, I was just 18 and not a good cook at all.

I didn’t even put meat in the sauce when we had spaghetti y’all! I swear he even asked one time if I could make something other than spaghetti. Fast forward to 16 years later, I cook ALL THE TIME and I cannot stay out of the kitchen. I even make Spaghetti and Meatballs EVERY Christmas Eve with his family’s recipe.
We make so much pasta at Christmas time now, our house smells of garlic for a week after, just kidding. Our Meatball recipe is for another time though. Today I am sharing my easy Spaghetti recipe, the one that I have made for the past 15 years give or take.
This is a super easy and quick recipe, plus you can tailor it to your own taste as well by using your favorite Italian seasoning (my favorite Italian Seasoning is the McCormick Italian Seasoning Grinder). I also love using the fresh basil from our little garden. We will go out and clip a few leaves for the sauce then chop some up for garnish to give it that fresh sweet zing basil packs.
Pro Tip – If your sauce gets to thick you can thin it out with reserved pasta water, so remember to save some when straining your pasta.
Like any cook, I have my favorite pot I use for cooking pasta. Below is my absolute favorite pot to cook any pasta or potatoes in. I have had it for about 10 years now and it is not retiring anytime soon. You can click on the image below or right here to get a closer look.
I love this pot because it has the strainer in the lid and I do not have to dirty another dish when straining the water. This pot also makes it super easy to save the pasta water as I just pour what I want to keep into a measuring cup.
The recipe I have here feeds my family of 4 ( including my 2 year old son) and provides leftovers for a few nights. If your kids are older I would suggest doubling if you want leftovers since they probably eat more than my 6 and 2 year old.
*Side note – If I was making this recipe for just me or if you have non picky eaters, I would throw in sauteed green peppers, mushrooms, and onion and other veggies while the sauce simmers. I have even set some sauce aside for myself and added veggies and simmered in a separate pot*
Leftover Tip – If you have leftover pasta do not microwave it. I have learned to drop leftover pasta into a pot of hot/boiling water for about 1-2 minutes then strain. This way the pasta tastes like it was just made and does not get all sticky like it does when you microwave it.
I hope you guys enjoy this Spaghetti with meatsauce as much as we do! If you make it be sure to tag me using #moerecipes so I can see how your yummy sauce turns out.
Spaghetti with Meatsauce Recipe
A delicious and simple spaghetti sauce loaded with Italian seasonings, garlic, fresh basil and seasoned ground beef. This is a perfect sauce for spaghetti night or making a homemade lasagna.
- 1 lb lean ground beef
- 1 28 oz can tomato sauce
- 1 6 oz can tomato paste we like the one with basil garlic flavoring
- 2 1/2 tbsp Italian Seasoning plus more or less to your taste we like our pasta Herb-y so we are heavy on the seasoning
- 2 cloves freshly diced garlic
- 6 fresh basil leaves reserve a little to chop for garnish of desired
- 1 tsp Salt & Pepper or to taste
- 1/2 tsp Sugar
- 1 tbsp grated Parmesan cheese plus more for garnishing
- 1 package spaghetti noodles
- 1/4-1/2 cup reserved pasta water for tomato sauce save just in case you need to thin out the sauce
Heat a large skillet with a lid to medium high heat. Fill a large pot with water and set to high heat so it can start to boil.
Once skillet is hot, add ground beef, garlic, 1 tbsp of the Italian seasoning and cook for about 8-10 minutes or until done.
While beef is cooking, cook spaghetti according to package directions. Once pasta is cooked set aside 1/4 cup pasta water to add to tomato sauce. When you drain the pasta you can drizzle with a little olive oil so it does not stick.
Drain any liquid from beef once cooked. Add tomato sauce and paste to cooked beef and all other spices, fresh basil leaves, sugar, Parmesan and reserved pasta water.
Cover and simmer on low for about 15-20 minutes. Stir sauce frequently so it does not stick to bottom of pan. If you have the extra time let it simmer for longer, the longer it simmers the more flavor you get.
Enjoy sauce over spaghetti or your favorite pasta.
If am drinking a glass of red wine while cooking I will throw in a quick splash in the sauce sometimes, a good Cab makes a yummy sauce.
